shell to ear (2021)

to place a lot of value on an object in hopes that it functions like a compass makes good sense and always has. when the item misguides, or something bad happens while it spent the day in your pocket, you can switch it out for a new thing and try again. the shell is a symbol of good fortune and resurrection. i’ve been wishing instead of praying lately before sleep— my prayers used to come from fears but my wishes reach for things well beyond me and into a better dream world. there is no limit to a wish.

this audio piece is a lazy-boy interview of a couple of friends or long time
lovers who saw signs of a changing world and decided to slow crawl toward the sun instead. i don’t know how one throws in the towel anymore— a commune? edge of the forest cabin? is it always seclusion?

the costume is a playful iteration of hope. it protects and it shields, but at the same time it invites. it is a re-imagined daily cloak for a world that no longer makes sense–it is as bizarre as the business suit.
